Great to visit the National Waterfront Museum and see the remarkable Ann Francis collection.
The Ann Francis was returning from Spain when it was wrecked off Margam beach during a ferocious storm. Its treasure was later discovered by a local resident and includes famous “pieces of eight”, gold and silver coins from Spain and Portugal, a boatswain’s whistle, lead shot and even a working combination lock.
It’s a fascinating piece of local history that connects Aberafan Maesteg directly to stories of trade, travel and life along our coastline.
It was also good to hear more about the museum’s plans to do even more to celebrate and tell the stories of our coastal communities.
