On a visit to the Afon Kenfig with members of the local community and A Peace for Nature, what we witnessed was deeply alarming.

The river is in an appalling state. Once a thriving ecosystem, it is now devoid of visible life. Habitats have been destroyed, the water is murky, grey sewage deposits line the riverbed, and the overwhelming smell of pollution is impossible to ignore. Recent discharges have clearly had a devastating impact.

This is an emergency situation. It requires urgent and decisive action.

I have written to Dŵr Cymru, Natural Resources Wales, and the Cabinet Minister for Rural Resilience and Sustainability, calling for immediate intervention. The situation demands swift action to clean up the river and restore its habitats and wildlife.

The current condition of the Afon Kenfig is completely unacceptable — and it cannot be allowed to continue.
