Job Details
Stephen Kinnock MP is looking for an enthusiastic, people-focused individual to join his busy and friendly team in Aberafan Maesteg. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on connecting with diverse communities, organising events, and using social media to amplify local voices.
You will play a key part in community engagement — delivering key initiatives such as Pride In Place, supporting events, managing stakeholders, and ensuring our constituency presence is visible, responsive, and welcoming.
Alongside this, you’ll support clear, effective communication with constituents across multiple platforms, turning Stephen’s local activities into engaging, accessible content that amplifies community voices and promotes local events.
Whilst the main focus of the job will be community outreach and engagement on the Pride in Place programme, it’s a small team so all have to be flexible and prepared to work across a broad range of tasks.
Key Responsibilities
Community Engagement & Events
- Support the delivery of Pride In Place, working with local partners and community groups to ensure meaningful and inclusive participation.
- Support the organising and delivery of constituency events such as advice surgeries, coffee mornings, funding fairs, and community drop-ins.
- Handle administrative arrangements for events, including venue research, compiling and managing guest lists, and providing on-the-day support.
- Attend constituency meetings and events as appropriate (including some weekend work).
- Provide support to the MP when undertaking community projects and engagement.
Communications & Social Media
- Create clear, engaging digital content across multiple platforms, including graphics and videos.
- Promote local activities such as surgeries and community updates through social media and other channels.
- Support the team to manage social media pages and the website, ensuring timely updates and professional engagement.
- Track the effectiveness of communications and adjust strategies accordingly.
- Proactively communicate with constituents regarding local issues, including assisting in updating social media on request.
Stakeholder Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local stakeholders including community groups, charities, businesses, and local leaders.
- Act as a key point of contact for community organisations, ensuring enquiries are responded to promptly and professionally.
Desirable Skills & Experience:
- A confident communicator with excellent verbal and written skills, and a genuine interest in community engagement.
- Extremely organised, able to prioritise and manage a high volume of diverse tasks.
- Experience organising or supporting community events.
- Knowledge of local communities and stakeholder networks.
- Creative, digitally confident, and able to produce engaging content.
- Strong digital communication skills and familiarity with social media platforms.
- A team player with a calm, polite, and empathetic approach when engaging with the public.
- Comfortable attending events and engaging with people from a wide range of backgrounds.
- Previous experience of a constituency office is desirable;
- Competent IT knowledge including Microsoft Office;
- Sympathetic to the aims and objectives of the Labour Party and politically aware.
Upon appointment you will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO).
